God’s Thoughts About You

“Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens.Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honour. You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet: all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!”

Psalm 8:1-9

The Glory of God

I love this description of God’s glory and majesty. The universe that God created reveals his glory; his name; the LORD, is majestic in all the earth. At the same time, the earth isn’t big enough to measure the glory and excellence of his name and his glory fills the heavens.

Out of the mouths of Babies

Its hard to imagine anyone more helpless and weak than a baby; yet God chooses the weak in which to display his glory and strength.

Jesus quoted this passage to his accusers, who were so indignant at his receiving of praise from children, who had cried out “Hosanna to the Son of David!”

“and they said to him, “Do you hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes; have you never read, “‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies you have prepared praise’?”

Matthew 21:16

Do you feel small and weak today? Look to God for his strength; he intentionally chooses the weak in which to display his glory, strength and power:

“But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong;”

1 Corinthians 1:27

Wonderful Care

Most of us have stood on a clear night and gazed in wonder at the stars. We can only see about 5,000 stars with the naked eye. An ordinary telescope can see about 2 million stars. An observatory telescope can see more than a billion stars. That’s mind boggling! I have read that the universe is so big that it would take 40 billion years to reach the edge of it, travelling at the speed of light. And God created it all.

Before all this vastness of God’s glory we humans are mere specks of dust. Yet God is “mindful” of us – we fill the mind of God! (verse 4).

God created us and stamped us with his image. He not only thinks about us, but cares about us and for us.

To me, this truth is even more beautiful and wonderful than billions of stars, and a thousand splendid sunrises:

God. Is. Mindful. Of me.
