‭‭PERFECT PEACE:

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”
(Isaiah‬ ‭26:3‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

‬‬Perfect peace. And to be kept in that place. What a promise! Hands up all who don’t want to have perfect peace.

Some people do manage to have peace, but it is fleeting —they are never kept there.

“Whose thoughts are stayed on you.”

‭‭If we long to be kept in this perfect peace, our mind must be stayed. The Hebrew word for ‘stayed’ is “sawmak,” which comes from the root “to prop” and paints a vivid picture of leaning on, taking hold of, bearing up, upholding, sustaining. (see Strong’s Dictionary)

The very same word is translated “sustained” in several other places in the Bible. One example is Psalm 3:5, “I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the Lord sustained me.”

What and upholds and sustains your mind?

What is your mind established upon?

What do you lean your mind upon?

What does your mind take hold of?

What does your mind stand fast upon?

“BECAUSE HE TRUSTS YOU”
When we trust God, we keep our mind stayed on Him. Proverbs 3:5 expresses this well: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.”

The word for lean here comes from the same root as the word stayed in Isaiah 26:3.

To be sustained by the Lord is to trust him.

To be established by him is to trust him.

To lean on him is to trust him.

To upheld by him is to trust him.

God’s promise of peace is true, (as are all his promises). Trusting him and remaining in that place of peace begins with our minds. What are our minds fixed on today? Our fears, our problems, or the only One who can fill us with peace and keep us in that place of peace, no matter what?
