Unseen, unnoticed, Unloved, (and other lies we tell ourselves)

What’s a Sparrow Worth?

What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.”

Matthew 10:29-31

We have a bird table in our back garden and I love watching the antics of the birds, sometimes hilarious, sometimes thought provoking. The smaller birds scatter as soon as the bigger ones arrive, and they all seem to be afraid of the big black crows. There are definitely much more beautiful birds, with brightly coloured feathers, put together by their Creator in the most intricate and wonderful designs.
The plain little brown sparrows sit up high in the hedges and just wait their turn. It’s as if they feel they wouldn’t stand a chance among those bigger, bolder, more powerful birds.

Not One Goes Unnoticed by God

Do you ever feel like a common garden sparrow? I admit, I sometimes do. In this parable, Jesus chose the plainest, smallest, most insignificant-seeming birds to illustrate His point, but he didn’t do so to confirm that he thought sparrows to be insignificant – quite the opposite. He said not a single one falls to the ground, without the Father’s notice!

If God cares so deeply for the little sparrow, how much more precious are you to Him? In fact, every single hair on your head is numbered.
You don’t need to hold back, as the sparrows do, from ‘coming to the table’. There’s no pecking order, no favouritism, in God’s Kingdom, and He doesn’t value one more highly than another.

So if this is you today, don’t be robbed a moment longer by the thought that you are unseen by your Father. Come down from your ‘safe place’ and enjoy all that He has for you.

I love getting together with friends and sharing with each other over a cup of coffee what God is doing in our lives, it boosts my faith and lifts my heart. That's the aim of this blog. There's a story behind it; It was inspired after a friend gave me a single mustard seed, saying ‘that’s all it takes Jill’. What my friend didn’t know was that the very same morning God had reminded me of a promise He'd made to me over 20 years before regarding writing. I took the mustard seed home, planted it and watched it grow from a tiny sapling to a large, flourishing shrub at our front door. Every time I look at it it reminds me that our God is always true to his promises. Jesus lives in and works through his people, every single day. It's good to share what he's doing! I love talking about Him and writing about Him.
