“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

GalatiAns 6:9

Lessons in Patience

Gardening has been a good ‘patience boot camp’ for me, patience being something I need to develop. When I plant things, I’m excited to see the end result, the reward for my effort and hard work. I planted potatoes a few weeks ago, and I’m already champing at the bit to harvest them. But it would be far too early; they are nowhere near ready yet.

Growth Takes Time

Harvest time is a wonderful time. It is a reward for all the weeks or months of watering, weeding, watching and waiting. And isn’t life a bit like that? Just as in gardening, waiting until harvest can often seem endless.

We want to see some sort of ‘reward’ for our efforts, in relationships, in business, in ministry. The progress can seem so slow, that we wonder if we will ever see the fruits.

When all we see above the surface is a tiny green shoot, it might look a bit disappointing. But there’s so much going on under the surface of the soil, that we cannot see. The roots are developing and becoming established, so that the plant can mature and grow from strength to strength. Slowly, but surely, we will start to see the evidence of tiny buds. The promise of ‘harvest.’

God is Working in the Waiting:

And so it is with that thing you have been praying for. For those ‘seeds’ you sowed, weeks, months, perhaps even years ago. God is always working for good, often deep beneath the surface – behind the scenes, even when we don’t see it, and cannot yet see any fruit.

The timeline may not meet your expectations, but the seed you planted and nurtured will bear good fruit!

Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.” (Psalm 27:14)

The LORD will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest.” (Psalm‬ ‭85:12‬)‭

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John‬ ‭15:5‬)

I love getting together with friends and sharing with each other over a cup of coffee what God is doing in our lives, it boosts my faith and lifts my heart. That's the aim of this blog. There's a story behind it; It was inspired after a friend gave me a single mustard seed, saying ‘that’s all it takes Jill’. What my friend didn’t know was that the very same morning God had reminded me of a promise He'd made to me over 20 years before regarding writing. I took the mustard seed home, planted it and watched it grow from a tiny sapling to a large, flourishing shrub at our front door. Every time I look at it it reminds me that our God is always true to his promises. Jesus lives in and works through his people, every single day. It's good to share what he's doing! I love talking about Him and writing about Him.

  1. Great Post Jill! I can definitely identify with this, I’ve not always been a patient person, I struggle a lot with that, I always seem to live by my humanness of “God I want You to do this (whatever it is) now! But then God in His love always brings me back to where His Word says, “Wait On The Lord”. What a great reminder of how we need to wait and trust our Savior more.
Thank you so much for this Jill! Blessings to you. – Adam (Live Real Blog) 😊💙🦋
