‘He Knows The Way That I Take’

Many people feel unsettled and uncertain these days, by circumstances; the threat of an unknown future. As we see business after business closed down, economies floundering and some countries still struggling to get the pandemic under control it can all be overwhelming.

This is the time for the people of God to remember His Goodness, and His Sovereignty.

This is the time for the people of God to remember His Goodness and His Sovereignty.

Where is God?

In times like these, if we do not keep our eyes fixed on Him, it is easy to lose sight of the Lord, and to begin asking “Where is God?” Perhaps Job felt something of this when he said in Job 23:

If only I knew where to find him; if only I could go to His dwelling! I would state my case before Him and fill my mouth with arguments. I would find out what He would answer me and consider what He would say.”
(Job 23:3-5)

Job continues in the next verse:
But if I go to the east, he is not there; if I go to the west, I do not find him.
When He is at work in the north, I do not see him; when He turns to the south, I catch no glimpse of him.”

(Job 23:8-9)

Then, in the midst of all his angst, Job makes this powerful statement: “He knows the way that I take.”

HE KNOWS THE WAY THAT I TAKE

God is exactly where He has always been, and always will be. He knows every step you and I have ever taken, and ever will take, and watches over you with tender, loving care.
This wonderful comfort is echoed by David, in the Psalms, at a time when David felt isolated, afraid and depressed:
“When my spirit grows faint within me, it is YOU who know my way.” (Psalm 142:3)

HE HAS PREPARED THE WAY AHEAD

Our lives are not fate-governed. Luck or chance play absolutely no role in the life of a child of God. Our God reigns, sovereign over absolutely everything. He is not abstract, far-off, watching from a distance what ‘fate’ might hand out to you. Instead, He is personally, intimately involved in your life; acting on your behalf. All powerful to see His purposes fulfilled.
We cannot see beyond tomorrow; we have no idea what the future holds, but God knows the way. He sees into eternity! We only need to follow Him; keep our eyes fixed on Him and our ears open for His instruction.

“But he knows the way that I take; when he has tried me, I shall come out as gold. My foot has held fast to his steps; I have kept his way and have not turned aside. I have not departed from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my portion of food.”
‭‭(Job‬ ‭23:10-12‬ ‭ESV)‬‬

What a God, what a Hope, What a Future!
