As Northern Ireland faces lockdown number 3 from 26th December, this time for six weeks, I’d like to encourage you with Jesus’ words from Matthew chapter 6 (below.)
It would be very tempting to give in to despair. To succumb to the morose, negative posts that are all over social media (some even written by Christians.)
But here’s the thing: simplistic though it might sound, we as Christians belong to a different Kingdom- the Kingdom of God. In the world in which we live, there will always be troubles and issues, big and small. But we are not overcome or overwhelmed by these external things.
We have a responsibility as Christians to be salt and light to those around us; those crying out for hope to cling to – a hope that WE carry within us; our beautiful Jesus!
We might not understand; we don’t know what tomorrow holds. But…we DO know who holds tomorrow.

This morning I read Matthew chapter 6, and my heart was strengthened, my faith boosted, my hope restored. If you are feeling discouraged today, or anxious, fearful or depressed, I would encourage you to open the Word of God and let it fill your mind and take root in your heart.
Be encouraged. God has you, and He has your tomorrow right in the palm of His mighty hand.
Matthew 6:25-34 ESV
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

That is one of my favorite passages of scripture! I have worn that page out in my Bible since I’ve read it so many times. Thank you for the reminder to be salt and light as Christians.

I’m sure if Biden is sworn in we will see something similar. But hey, maybe I will get some more paintings finished 🙂

Anthony our first lockdown was to last 6 weeks; it went on for 5 months. Then we had a second wave of the virus and an incredibly high infection rate and in November had a 2nd lockdown for 2 weeks. This 3rd one is meant to be 6 weeks, starting the day after Christmas. We need more than ever, to pray for our leaders and politicians. I’m really glad I don’t have to do the job they do. They are criticised and despised if they don’t something and then when they do, they are criticised and despised even more. They literally cannot win. 🙃
