“So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.”‭‭‭

I’m very blessed to live by the sea, and I love watching the  constant to-ing and fro-ing of the fishing vessels and the ferries to and from England and Scotland. The waters of Belfast lough look calm some days, even glass-like, but a sudden squall turns the sea choppy in moments and if it’s very stormy, the ferry is cancelled; the ships and boats are anchored in the harbour until the storm passes.

The Anchor isn’t needed in calm seas..

The anchor is a vital part of the ship:
Something to note about an anchor is, it isn’t needed when the sea is calm. The rougher the storm, the more important your anchor.The ship’s anchor prevents it from being tossed onto the rocks and being wrecked. The anchor keeps the vessel stabilised.

The ship must be joined to the anchor – securely attached, while that anchor has a secure unbreakable grip on both the ship and the unseen ocean floor.

So it is in life:
We cannot expect life without storms. But we have an Anchor like no other! His name is Jesus, our sure and certain Hope.
We are anchored in Heaven because of Jesus, our “forerunner,” (the One who has gone before us) and this anchor-hope now ushers us with absolute confidence right into the very presence of God.
