Come out of hiding

What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.”   Matthew 10:29-31

We have a bird table in our back garden and I love watching the antics of the birds, sometimes hilarious, sometimes thought provoking. The smaller birds scatter as soon as the bigger ones arrive, and they all seem to be afraid of the big black crows.
The plain little brown sparrows sit up high in the hedges and just wait their turn. It’s as if they feel they wouldn’t stand a chance among those bigger, bolder, more powerful birds.

Do you ever feel like a common garden sparrow? I put my hand up and say that I sometimes do. Jesus didn’t picked the plainest, smallest, most (seemingly) insignificant of birds to illustrate His point. He wasn’t confirming in this story in Matthew’s gospel that sparrows are insignificant – quite the opposite. He said not a single one falls to the ground, without the Father’s notice!

If God cares so deeply for the little sparrow, how much more precious are you to Him? In fact every single hair on your head is numbered.
You don’t need to hold back, as the sparrows do, from ‘coming to the table’. There’s no pecking order in God’s Kingdom, and He doesn’t value one more than another. So if this is you today, come down from your ‘safe place’ and enjoy all that your Father has for you. Don’t be robbed a moment longer! .
