Shame’s Chains Are Broken

I’m sure you’re just like me in that you love talking about how God transformed your life – you will have some great testimonies of all the times He has come through for you, has answered prayer, has blessed your life from the overflow of His abundance. But many Christians have hidden, ‘no-go’ areas of their lives – perhaps that’s you today? I’ve been there!

little ‘secret pocket’ in your life, perhaps from your past, that is so filled with shame that you think, “I couldn’t possibly talk about that, what would people think of me!” So these no-go areas stay buttoned tightly closed, shrouded in shame.

Sexual abuse, divorce, addiction, eating disorders …all manner of things from Satan’s bag of nasties – all part of his onslaught against humanity.

Somehow, deep deep down, you may hold the belief that God has forgiven every sin – except that one; can heal every hurt perpetrated against you – except that one.

That thing you feel too ashamed to share may be  the very thing That brings something else’s breakthrough.

Silence the Propaganda – Don’t Let Yourself Be Silenced
As we know, we have an enemy, Satan, who seeks every opportunity to “kill, steal and destroy”. One of the ways he does this is through a weapon called shame – whether this shame is associated with something that happened to you, or something you have done. Shame is not from God. God doesn’t shame His children.

The enemy spreads his nasty, twisted anti – Jesus propaganda, totally opposed to what Jesus says about you if you are His child, by telling you things such as, “You’re tainted”, “You deserved what happened to you”, or worse”God didn’t care, when it happened”, “You couldn’t possibly be a Christian, look at how you’ve hurt others”, “You’re, worthless – a loser.” “God doesn’t care about you”, and so the list of his lies goes on.

Do agree with enemy propaganda?

Shame is a Liar.
Shame spreads its insidious lies against precious, forgiven Sons and Daughters, declared “white as snow” by our Father. It’s propaganda tries to tell us we are unworthy, tarnished irredeemable.

We have a choice. To believe and live in agreement with what God says about us, or live in agreement, and take on board this enemy propaganda.

When Jesus rescued redeemed us from our old life, it was total.

As He sighed His last breaths on the cross, He said “It is finishedit being the work of redemption that He came to accomplish. He did not say “it is partially finished”.

God says you are:
Sons and Daughte
rs: And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.2 Corinthians 6:18

Forgiven “I will never again remember their sins.”  (Hebrews 8:12)

A Brand New Person: (because Jesus thought you were worth dying for!) “My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20

The Shame Associated With The Past is Over: Fear not; you will no longer live in shame. Don’t be afraid; there is no more disgrace for you. You will no longer remember the shame of your youth and the sorrows of widowhood.” Isaiah 54:4

This includes things perpetrated against you, and things you yourself have done.

There is NO part of your testimony that is shameful. Jesus is a Mighty Redeemer who transformed and is still transforming your life and mine. We are a beautiful work in progress. Jesus Christ, by whose own blood you have been ransomed, stands in between you and the enemy and therefore no charge or condemnation the enemy of your soul tries to hurl your way can stand against you.

Your testimony is powerful, don’t let shame’s lies silence you. Jesus has won!

Revelation 12:10-11 “It has come at last— salvation and power and the Kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters has been thrown down to earth— the one who accuses them before our God day and night. And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony.”

  1. Your words brought me to torrential tears, Jill. This is the message I share with other women: and preach to myself over and over behind the scenes. Yet, even today as the same truth pours from your page, grief and shame lurk in the deep caverns of my heart. Intellectually and theologically I understand the glorious power of redemption and forgiveness. I encourage others to step out into fields of grace, let the weight of the past slip from their shoulders, and bask in the light of the Son. Yet allowing His grace to cover the emptying of the womb remains the ‘unforgivable’ in so many women’s hearts; and the hardest part of my own journey. Thank you for these healing words of love and acceptance.

    1. Tabitha thank you for your beautiful message – I think that lurking shame you speak of is so common, (that’s the thing about shame; the ‘ashamed’ person often feels they’re the only one) and your transparency is really inspiring, and I believe it will touch many hearts 💕
