The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe. Proverbs 18:10
I woke up this morning with this scripture running through my mind. It reminds me of a time I was at the beach with my children when my youngest son was about two years old.
The beach was fairly empty of people except for an elderly couple and a man with a huge dog.
The man didn’t seem to notice that his dog had taken a special interest in our son, and was following him everywhere he toddled. Stuart loves dogs, but when you’re two years old, being followed by a dog that in comparison to you is the size of a large horse, can become intimidating, to say the least, and just a few weeks before, Stuart had been bitten in the face by a friend’s Rottweiler.
I was watching him and the dog closely, when he suddenly could take it no longer and, wailing “Mummy!” he took off down the beach, trying to outrun the dog. Of course, the dog, thinking this was the best game ever, bounded after him, barking and terrifying him even more.
Then, over the sound of the dog’s excited barking and his own fearful sobbing he suddenly heard me calling his name. He had his back to me, running in the opposite direction, but he turned around and saw me kneeling down with my arms outstretched toward him. And he ran to me. I picked him up and we went over to the dog and, with Stuart up in my arms, I told the dog firmly, “no!” It looked at me, then turned and skulked away.
“Run to Him”
There can be times in life when something might seem bigger than us. It might appear to be threatening. And everything in us screams “run!!” Sometimes, I have to confess, I do run.
But we have a God who is bigger, stronger, mightier than anything we could ever face! He calls you and me by name and He says “Run to Me!”
He swoops you up in His mighty, everlasting arms and says to whatever it is that is threatening you – “No!” And it turns and skulks away.
Don’t run away in fear – run to God!

Hey Jill! Adam here, hey thanks so much for this post, I needed to read this today, I have been dealing a lot with fear and anxiety in different situations in life, and those situations just feel like my Goliath and my wall of Jericho or that dog that chased your son. In the midst of those things, it’s hard to hear God through my feeling terrified,
but then when I hear Him, I run to Him, but it seems like a lot when I run to God and I feel I’m getting closer to Him, He seems to fade away, like I hear His voice as I’m running and I cry out “I hear you Lord, but where are you?!” And I still hear Him calling out “I’m right here, keep running!”
And then I seem to get closer again, and then it feels like He fades a little more. It’s frustrating and even more anxiety filled when you know the giants of your life are chasing you right behind you. It’s so hard to know what to do in those times, and it gets wearying to keep running, what do you do in those times?

I know what you mean Adam; I think we all go through times when we feel that way. For me personally what helps me is to remind myself of who God is and of His promises- scriptures such as Isaiah 41:10 “do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” help me to refocus my gaze on Him. He promised never to leave us “as orphans”- to never leave or forsake us. He is our strength, our hope, our shield. I keep reminding myself till I remember again 😊

Thanks Jill! I love that verse in Isaiah, it’s crazy and amazing at the same time, I was just reading that scripture this morning! I guess God was using you to remind me of that again and to remind me of His perfect promises. Thanks again so much! 😊❤️
