This is just a thought really – or a short blog post that expanded from a thought.
I was just doing ‘random’ humdrum housework, my mind still mulling over what I had read in my personal reading / devotional time with God this morning, when the thought came to me, what sort of people regularly hear from God?
Sure, there are people God spoke to and still speaks to today who are merrily (or not so merrily) living their lives apart from God until He dramatically intervenes in their lives in some way and speaks to them; such as Hagar, alone, feeling unseen, unloved and unwanted until God tells her He is the one who sees her. Or even Balaam, whom God chose to speak through a donkey! These are not the type of encounters I’m talking about though. I’m talking about those such as Jeremiah, Isaiah, Moses, Hosea, John, Paul and some of our modern day prophetic voices – Kris Vallotton, Shawn Bolz to name just two – men and women of God who walked in close relationship with God and regularly shared/share the thoughts of God.
On the whole, when you read through the Bible and right down through our history, it becomes clear that those who hear God frequently tend to be the ones who intentionally seek Him; with purpose and longing in their heart for connection with the Father that echoes the longing and purpose in His heart.
This is what the Lord tells us through Jeremiah in – Jeremiah 29:13 If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.
That’s His promise to you and to me. He always, always honours His promises!
