We have double glass doors from our living room into the back garden. We very seldom use these doors because the kitchen door is easier to open. Today, when David decided to open the doors, the younger of our two dogs reacted really strangely. We were standing in the garden when we heard a sad and lonely sounding little “woof”. Thinking she’d got closed in somewhere, we went to investigate and what we saw made us both fall about laughing at first and then really made me think;
There was poor little Maisie, sitting looking out of the doorway, where the glass doors are usually closed. Her brain was telling her she couldn’t go through – obviously she must’ve thought she was seeing us through glass (as if my windows are ever that clean!)
The doors were wide open but her mind was telling her she was imprisoned.
I wish I’d got a video of the moment she “broke free” – she suddenly jumped up as though to press her front paws against the non-existent glass, and tumbled out onto the step.
Cute and funny as this was, I believe there are some reading this who, just like our Maisie, don’t see that the door is open. Jesus opened it! You are no longer a prisoner of your past. All you need to do is step out and walk in your freedom.
And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.
