Lessons From a Vaccum Cleaner

Present yourself to God”
I was looking at our (slightly messy) house this morning and I thought to myself how nice it would be if the vacuum cleaner could just sense when the floors are dusty, automatically start up and clean the house all on its own.
But no, without a human hand directing it, my vacuum cleaner is just a very attractive looking, but useless appliance in the corner of the kitchen.
Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.
Romans 6:13

Every single one of us can be a useful and treasured ‘tool’ in the hand of God. But without His empowering, we’re a bit like my vacuum cleaner – beautiful but useless.
2 Timothy 2:15Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”

Our vacuum cleaner is one of those rechargeable types. On a full charge it cleans the whole house. Then you can hear the battery starting to run down, until it has no power left to run on and will not work again until it’s spent time its charging station.

Likewise, I can usually notice when my spiritual battery is starting to run down. If I don’t spend time recharging my battery in the ‘docking station’ of God’s Word, and I try to keep going in my own strength, I will run myself into the ground.
When we draw near to God with our weary hearts and bodies, spending daily time in His Word, He strengthens and replenishes us.
“For I will satisfy the weary soul, and every languishing soul I will replenish.”
Jeremiah 31:25
rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”
Colossians 2:7

Without Him we can do nothing but with the Spirit of God dwelling inside us, igniting and empowering us, life takes on new meaning; We have hope!
