God Will ‘Go Before’ You

God Clears Your Path
Over the last few days we had a fall of snow that was heavier than normal for this little part of Northern Ireland. Our house is at the top of a high hill, so, not having a sleigh with a few reindeer, we had to stay home for a couple of days.
On Sunday morning, after even more snow on Saturday night, I set out to drive to church.
As I turned into the road from our driveway, my heart started to beat a little bit faster; the snow had frozen solid and was like an ice skating rink. Then, I noticed that there were some deep tracks, made by some other, larger vehicle; maybe a tractor or some other farm utility vehicle. I let the wheels of my car slide into these tracks, and because the tracks were so deep and had frozen, they held my wheels in place and stopped my car from sliding around.
While my car was being literally ‘led’ safely all the way down to the main road, the thought came to mind of how many times God promises throughout the Bible “I will go before you”.
I will go before you And make the crooked places straight’. Isaiah 45:2a

My little car would have had great difficulty getting down to the main road without those pre made tracks.
This is what God does for us, every single day. Sometimes without our even knowing it.

It’s a Conscious Decision
I could have chosen not to drive in the tracks and to try to keep driving on the snow – even make my own tracks. But really, how stupid and hard-headed would I have to be to do that, when a much bigger, stronger vehicle had gone before me and created a path for me!
The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” Proverbs 16:9
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5–6

Going through some “deep snow” today? God has gone before you and made a way. You don’t need to try to get through it on you own.
It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”  Deuteronomy 31:8
