How Big is Your God?

It’s all a matter of perspective.
When you remember how big God is, you see how small your problems are in comparison.
After reading Isaiah 40 this morning, I’ve been thinking about what keeps me strong in times when everything around me seems to fall apart. It’s certainly not that I’m a strong person. I know that it’s this: I can trust in the rock solid truths of the absolute sovereignty of God, His goodness, His greatness and His everlasting love and faithfulness towards me.

So let’s look at just how big our God is:
The Bible is packed with scriptures describing and declaring God’s attributes, but I’m just looking at Isaiah 40 today.

There is No Name Greater or Higher:
”To whom can you compare God? What image can you find to resemble him? “To whom will you compare me? Who is my equal?” asks the Holy One.” Isaiah 40:18,25
‭‭
He is All Knowing
He knows everything about everything, and because of this, He never misses a beat. He never falls asleep, He see everything, knows every tiny detail of every life. That’s incredible, and so comforting.
“O Jacob, how can you say the Lord does not see your troubles? O Israel, how can you say God ignores your rights? Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding.” Isaiah 40:27–28
‭‭
His Wisdom ‭‭is Absolute
“Who is able to advise the Spirit of the Lord? Who knows enough to give him advice or teach him? Has the Lord ever needed anyone’s advice? Does he need instruction about what is good? Did someone teach him what is right or show him the path of justice? No, for all the nations of the world are but a drop in the bucket. They are nothing more than dust on the scales. He picks up the whole earth as though it were a grain of sand.” Isaiah 40:13-15
‭‭
He is All Powerful
“Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing.” Isaiah 40:26
‭‭
‭‭His Word is All that Will Stand (He Has the Last Word – The Final Say.)
“The grass withers and the flowers fade beneath the breath of the Lord. And so it is with people. The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.”  Isaiah 40:7–8
‭‭
He is So Much Bigger Than Any Mountain You May Face.
“Who else has held the oceans in his hand? Who has measured off the heavens with his fingers? Who else knows the weight of the earth or has weighed the mountains and hills on a scale?” Isaiah 40:12
‭‭
And even though God is so great, so all powerful and awesome, that just His mighty breath alone could wipe out nations if He wanted to, The Lord our God takes tender care of His children, as a loving shepherd cares for his sheep:
“He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will carry the lambs in his arms, holding them close to his heart. He will gently lead the mother sheep with their young.” Isaiah 40:11
‭‭Whatever kind of month, week, or day you may be having, remember- This is our God!

    1. It’s one of my favourite chapters in Isaiah. Thank you for your kind words and for sharing so honestly, Elizabeth. Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and you will not be overwhelmed- like David said “when my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the towering rock of safety, for you are my safe refuge” Psalm 61:2,3 (NLT) 💜
