Blinkered

‘Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you’.  Psalm 25:4-5

We live in a semi rural area surrounded by farms; Somewhere on our long road lives a man who trains young horses to pull a cart.

It’s such a rare sight these days to see a pony and trap that I love watching them pass by.
I hear the man talking firmly but gently to the horse; as time goes by and they pass our house a couple of times a week, I see the young horse grow in confidence and obedience.

Something I’ve noticed is that usually, the horse will be wearing blinkers (or blinders as some countries more aptly call them)

Horses, especially younger ones, can be easily frightened by a passing car and our road is surprisingly busy for a country road.

The blinkers keep his eyes fixed on the road ahead and stop him being distracted or frightened by what’s happening around him.

In a similar way, God’s Word serves as ‘blinkers’ to us.

Life, and the enemy of your soul – Satan- will hurl things your way that threaten to discourage or distract you. But when you know and truly believe the Word of God, you can keep your eyes firmly fixed on the road ahead.

These are a few ‘blinkers’ from the Word of God:

I can trust God to direct me:
Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left. Isaiah 30:21

The Lord directs our steps, so why try to understand everything along the way?”  Proverbs 20:24

I know, Lord, that our lives are not our own. We are not able to plan our own course.” –  Jeremiah 10:23
(Jeremiah goes on to say in the next verse “so correct me Lord, but please be gentle”)

God Will Work Everything Together For My Good
Whatever comes my way, and even my own mess-ups, when I hand them over to God, He can turn these around to work them for my good.

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” Romans 8:28

God is in complete control of everything.
We may throw the dice, but the Lord determines how they fall’. Proverbs 16:33

Why are the nations so angry? Why do they waste their time with futile plans? The kings of the earth prepare for battle; the rulers plot together against the Lord and against his anointed one”Psalm 2:1-2

I’m so thankful that my life isn’t determined by ‘luck’ or chance. I have a Shepherd who cares for me, leads me, teaches me and lovingly disciplines me every step of the way.

  1. Marvelous picture and illustration of exactly how we are to look at Scripture. It is our guide for living our life in Him. There is no other place we can go for help. Thanks for this post. Blessings to you, Jill. I pray that you have a God filled day as you walk the road before you.
